TONS OF GREAT NEWS from Your Market Manager

HAVE YOU VISITED NATHAN’S GARDEN LATELY?
Here’s a 43-second span with a candid appearance from Nathan playing in his garden bursting with abundance.

THOSE WEIRD GREENS ON OUR MARKET
We are offering you a “NO RISK” opportunity to try them out. Buy any of the following products from Grower Nathan’s Natural Veggies and get a full refund if they are just not to your taste. CHOOSE FROM any mix of Nathan’s Salad Mixes (Jazz, etc.), the Summer Smoothie Bundle, and/or Greens to Saute. All of these risk-free eligible items are listed under “Greens” and tagged with asterisks in the product name. The only thing we require is that you do your part by experimenting with them raw with salad dressings or dips and/or cooking them using recipes you can easily find on the internet. Email Market Manager at stpete@locallygrown.net with any requests for recipes if you cannot locate any. This summer is the time for YOU to try locally grown greens that are the freshest available and therefore the healthiest you can eat this summer. FRESH GREENS ARE GUARANTEED THE HEALTHIEST WAY TO GO.

    ALREADY LOVING THOSEWEIRDGREENS?
If you can share photos and recipes of your success with any of the summer greens from our Market, we will post them on our Facebook page and share on our weekly email to customers. FIRST 10 SUBMISSIONS will be rewarded with one full pound of free greens (your choice from what is available) for your efforts. All entries must arrive as a link that we can post to our Facebook page and share within our weekly email. Please email stpete@locallygrown.net with any questions and/or your entry link.

    JUICING OUR GREENS
There is much demand for summer greens from which to extract juice but we don’t know if our greens are juicy enough for this. So, if you are currently juicing and would like to experiment (for free) with greens from Nathan’s Garden, please contact Market Manager at 727-515-9469. CAVEAT: I’ve been warned that leafy greens can be tough to extract much juice from depending on what kind of juicer you use. For this experiment to work you must have a leafy greens attachment designed to extract more juice from leafy greens. My limited understanding is that a Champion juicer has such an attachment available. The FIRST 3 CONTACTS to call me “might” team up to help formulate a good juicing mix to sell on our Market. Your reward? The team will get all the credit (broadcasted and posted on Facebook—with team photos), a free juicing bundle of whatever mix results, and our sincere thanks for volunteering your juicing expertise! Who knows? Maybe this will launch your next career!

    HOW TO COOK GRASS-FED BEEF
We want you to have a great experience with all produce and products you purchase through our Market. Many folks are not aware that grass-fed beef is made for rare to medium-rare cooking. If you want it cooked more well done then you have to stew it on very low heat. GRASS FED BEEF HAS THE FAT CONTENT OF SKINLESS CHICKEN. Source: www.americangrassfedbeef.com. Here are some tips for successfully cooking this healthier alternative resource and some how-to recipes for different cuts of grass-fed beef. Bon appetit!

NEW GROWERS NOW AND NEAR FUTURE
Get prepared for 100% beef sausage from Sunset Ranch in Dover, Florida. This is a leaner sausage than you may be used to with NO FAT ADDED, NO MSG, NO NITRATES, NO NITRITES. Grower Jim K. recommends that you don’t overcook it because it’s very lean. I plan to cook it to medium like a burger, since there are no additives to be concerned about. Ingredients: 100% grassfed beef and spices, period! Sunset Ranch’s Red Angus and South Poll breeds derive 100% of their nutritional needs from grass, forbs and other growing plants. NO antibiotics or hormones are used. We’re just waiting for our order to be filled and expect to have it on the Market in the near future, maybe even this week. If so, we’ll issue a broadcast to let you know. We are also expecting 100% grassfed ground lamb from Sunset Ranch in the very near future!

This week we are introducing natural, locally made products from Molly’s Suds. Many of you were fortunate to receive laundry detergent samples at our last potluck social. My laundry came out brighter! We are impressed with the purity and the passionate intentions behind these products. Check out their dryer balls and pet shampoo too! Be sure to visit their website to get the full story behind this local business based in St. Petersburg.

ONLY PHONE CALLS ON DELIVERY DAY
It is always best to call my cellphone on Friday morning rather than emailing or texting. Nathan and I are usually up and out of the house by 630AM, preparing deliveries for the day. Tina: 727-515-9469

ARE YOU RECEIVING OUR DELIVERY SCHEDULES?
Please check that our emails are not going to your SPAM BOX. You should ALWAYS receive a delivery schedule by Thursday evening. If you haven’t, then please call me 727-515-9469. Spam filters are constantly changing to adapt to new techniques and types of spam messages, so what lands in the inbox today could be spam filtered tomorrow.

Summer Schedule Announced for our Market

SPLG Market goes on Summer Schedule

    Valued Customers:
We are grateful for your ongoing support of our Market and trust that an upcoming change in our online Market schedule will not keep you from patronizing our Market all summer long. If you have been with us for awhile, then you know that this summer’s produce and product list is double what it was last summer. Yet, with recent considerable increase in demand (Amen!), we continue to strive for enough produce during hot summer months. But we still need—and greatly appreciate—your year-round support to keep us operational.

With all this said, St. Pete Locally Grown is rescheduling our online Market to open every other week effective this Monday, June 24th through the end of August. This means that the Market will open this coming Monday, June 24th, with orders delivered on Friday as usual. The Market will then close the week of July 1st and reopen on July 8th and so on, until September.

Many customers are already ordering every other week. Given that the majority of our greens last for 2 to 3 weeks when properly stored, it follows that you too can plan your orders for two weeks instead of one. Here are helpful hints to keep your greens as fresh as possible! We will still offer fruit which will likely need to be consumed the week it gets delivered. Of course, frozen foods won’t be an issue. Regarding dairy, here are guidelines for keeping yours fresh up to two weeks. I know these work because my goat kefir lasts up to two weeks.

We appreciate your understanding of this summer schedule and would like to hear from you about any concerns you have that will keep you from ordering every other week. We want to address each concern so that we may mutually support one another.

    Best,
    Tina & Nathan

PS. Nothing else will change on our Market’s scheduled activities. Our volunteer opportunities on Tuesdays and Saturdays remain the same. Our potluck socials will continue on the 4th Saturday of each month. Nathan’s urban farming class will continue the 2nd Saturday of each month.

THIS IS THE LAST WEEK FOR GERALDSON COMMUNITY FARM UNTIL OCTOBER!

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CUSTOMERS! Once you have submitted your order, if in doubt about what you owe, you can always confirm what you have been charged for by checking your account history and viewing your most current invoice. Instructions on how to do that are on our Q&A page under the question entitled Since you don’t provide an invoice with delivery, how do I know what I owe? . Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. When you accept delivery, please take a few minutes to inspect your order to protect your vegetables from unnecessary spoilage. Lastly, it is imperative that you understand our policy on Unclaimed Orders found on our Q&A page. When you make a purchase you are agreeing to abide by this policy.
