SPLG Hyeroglyphics
Ever notice the hyeroglyphics written on the front of some of our product descriptions? like “CT3.19@RO&2.99@EO/Mex”? That means “compare our price to local competitors (RO & EO) and their current pricing and also noting if their’s is sourced internationally.” New one for you: “saEO” means “same as (a competitor)”… Don’t forget that regardless of pricing, when you compare our prices to those of local retailers, our locally grown, chemical-free vegetables are harvested to order for delivery to YOU!
Message from Your Market Manager
OUR MARKET SCHEDULE UNTIL END OF YEAR
If you cannot view this link at the SPLG Market Calendar 2014 then here is the scoop! Please make note of it… Closed week of 11/24 for thanksgiving, re-open weeks of 12/1 and 12/15 then closed for TWO weeks including week of Christmas and New Years.
TRADITIONALTHANKSGIVING FARE
We invested in minimal amounts of cauliflower, russets, reds, and sweet potatoes this week. Also acquired beautiful cranberries from Oregon and the Covington yams are from NC. While doing research on yams vs. sweet potatoes, I happened on info that the Covington Yams from NC are used to produce Covington Gourmet Vodka for sale in NC liquor stores. Their marketing byline? “Ending America’s dependence on foreign vodka”. Differences between sweet potatoes and yams? EXCERPT: “A true yam is… generally imported to America from the Caribbean. It is rough and scaly and very low in beta carotene.” Also BEAUTIFUL Seminole Pumpkins available in good variety of sizes! Shop early as all these items will go fast.
GREAT SQUASH SIDE DISH
This one never fails to please my guests and doesn’t have to be a side dish… Roasted Butternut Squash, Rosemary, and Garlic Lasagne. If you want a version to print from Cook’s Illustrated that has a photo, then here is my copy.
FRUIT THIS WEEK
We hope that we are satisfying your needs for fruit lately. We are loving the convenience and variety available for our customers! This week: pineapples, grapefruit, apples, pears, etc.
DEADLINE ON ORDERING NON GMO RAW COW MILK
Pam has posted the deadline as Tuesday 3PM due to the logistics of getting this fine product from her supplier for all things raw-cow. Look for it under the "M"s listed as “Milk – JTB Jersey Farms Raw Cow Milk TOTALLY NON GMO”.
NEW CUSTOMERS ARE ASKING ABOUT RAW DAIRY AND EGG PRODUCTS LABELED “FOR PET CONSUMPTION ONLY”
Pam Lunn of The Dancing Goat has graciously provided this explanation: “While we drink and eat all our products in our household, and have for the past 14 years, our licensing from the State of Florida (FDACS #1280 Dancing Goat) requires that we sell for the intent of pet consumption only. Any attempt to engage in conversations regarding the consumption by humans could jeopardize our licensing. Per Florida Law, it is illegal to sell raw milk/products for the intent of human consumption. Our milk products / cheeses are all raw and our free range eggs are not graded or washed in a chemical solution. We provide you with products produced by our stock the way Mother Nature delivered them.” NOTE FROM MKT MGR: ALL of our egg providers are required to provide this labelling.

HOLIDAY PARTY ON DEC. 6TH
Have you marked your calendar? NO speaker for this event. Just friendship, frivolity, fire, and food!
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CUSTOMERS!
Once you have submitted your order, if in doubt about what you owe, you can always confirm what you have been charged for by checking your account history and viewing your most current invoice. Instructions on how to do that are on our Q&A page under the question entitled Since you don’t provide an invoice with delivery, how do I know what I owe? Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. When you accept delivery, please take a few minutes to inspect your order to protect your vegetables from unnecessary spoilage. Lastly, it is imperative that you understand our policy on Unclaimed Orders found on our Q&A page. When you make a purchase you are agreeing to abide by this policy.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEED
Our Market has high standards for what it sells. Despite that—as seasons transition—the challenges of evolving weather and pesky insects can take its toll on the crops. Market Growers are being very selective about what they are willing to present to you. No, it won’t always be picture perfect (which is part of its charm) and sometimes an insect is going to evade capture! But we won’t send you anything that we wouldn’t eat ourselves. If for any reason we have goofed and you are dissatisfied, please report it to me right away so we can rectify the situation. That’s how we get better and we all benefit from that. Your satisfaction is key to our success as a resource for St. Petersburgs’ lovers of chemical-free, organically & locally grown vegetables.
