    Featured Volunteer, Brenon Duff

I like to volunteer because I learn new things and get to know other people better. I’ve worked in my own garden for many years and I do it alone because it’s a time for me to contemplate and be creative outdoors in nature, and I like to watch plants grow. But when I help in other people’s gardens, it’s teamwork, it’s community, it’s camaraderie. And when it’s for a good cause that’s benefiting many people, like SPLG or the Faith House garden, that’s a great motivation. I also learn new things and sometimes teach a bit as well. So helping in Nathan’s garden is just plain fun and I encourage anyone who hasn’t volunteered there to try it. You won’t regret it.

    WELCOME TO PERMACULTURE GOODIES
This week we are thrilled to have Justin Marlin coming on board with his St. Petersburg urban farm called Permaculture Goodies. Justin is a local Permaculture Designer and is offering permacultural produce that our Market has yet to find anywhere else. Woohoo for more variety and “Welcome” to Justin! Can you say “Chayote”? pronounced “chay-oh-tay”…

BEDROCK LIVING GOT A GREAT WELCOME!
Thanks for the warm welcome you extended last week to Leanna Cappucci of Bedrock Living! Her products sold out during her first week on our Market and she’s back this week with more quantity and an expanding variety of her line of “safe”, “clean” and “real” body care items.

    GLORY ROAD GARDENS
Did you know that our Market sells a microgreen mix that contains an eye-popping mix of any of the following varieties: pea shoots, red oak leaf, red mustard, arugula, ruby streaks, komatsuna, gem marigold, red choi, purpel mizuna, red Russian, ruby red chard, garnet amaranth, basil, and Thai basil? GRG’s microgreens are grown to a stage of development in between a sprout and a baby green. They contain the dense nutritional value of a sprout topped off with an extra kiss of life sustaining chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been called “nature’s greatest healer”. It is the first product of light, therefore contains more healing properties than any other element. Also important: All of GRG’s mixes will keep between 2 and 3 weeks when properly refrigerated but you will finish them off way before then! POSTNOTE FROM MARKET MGR Just heard from the Grower that “the weather got all the fragile stuff… no blends this week..should be back to normal next week.” Until then, enjoy the succulence of fresh pea shoots and sunflower shoots. Hoping that we have whet your appetite for this luscious mix on future orders.

    POTLUCK SOCIALS
Have you attended one of our monthly socials yet? If not, you won’t know what you are missing until you do. Everyone who attends leaves feeling uplifted, better informed, having met new friends. Held exclusively for active customers, valued volunteers and contributing growers, these socials are a great place to get recipes, gain insight into the urban farming movement, and network for your business. If you receive an Evite, you are eligible to attend. Please come!

    WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST CUSTOMERS!
Once you have submitted your order, if in doubt about what you owe, you can always confirm what you have been charged for by checking your account history and viewing your most current invoice. Instructions on how to do that are on our Q&A page under the question entitled Since you don’t provide an invoice with delivery, how do I know what I owe? . Also, since your vegetables are picked fresh within 24 hours of delivery, they should be lasting for WEEKS in your refrigerator. When you accept delivery, please take a few minutes to inspect your order to protect your vegetables from unnecessary spoilage. Lastly, it is imperative that you understand our policy on Unclaimed Orders found on our Q&A page. When you make a purchase you are agreeing to abide by this policy.

    MARKET FEES
Delivery and membership fees are being reevaluated for the coming year. As your Market Manager, one of my duties is to grow the Market and to retain our dedicated customers. To that end, I can assure you that, whatever we decide to do, it will be done for the good of sustaining our Market and providing affordable, high quality goods from our Market to your door. Longterm, I envision Market fees fluctuating up—and down—as needed so the Market can continue to provide this much needed service and valuable products to the St. Petersburg Community. Stay tuned.

    DELIVERY OPTIONS
Business is starting to mushroom! This is what we have been working towards. As a result, we are striving to serve an expanded delivery schedule by relocating some of our delivery drop spots. The lower the amount of stops we have to make on Friday, the more deliveries we can squeeze into our all-day schedule. Please be patient as we aspire to keeping our service convenient for our customers AND cost effective for sustaining our small business and our fluctuating volunteer pool.
