Haines Road Garden

I am a college student currently studying at USF St.Peterbsurg, with a focus on ecology and Environmental Science. I am inspired by sustainable solutions for growing healthy food both locally and around the globe. My craze in growing food began with raising chickens and spending time at my family’s small farm in Georgia. I currently have 8 laying hens, which produce wonderfully fresh eggs and lots of organic waste that gets reused in the farm. They are a mixed flock made up of Silkies, Auracanas, Barred Rocks, and Dark Cornish. They eat an all natural plant based feed, leftover vegetables from the garden, and graze on plenty of grass and bugs. The vegetable garden is built up with a combination of compost and other recycled organic material, using a variety of methods in order to create healthy and nutrient dense soil. The various amendments include all local coffee grounds, egg shells, horse and chicken manure, and compost tea. This allows all of the tasty fruits and vegetables to be grown completely chemical and pesticide free.

Enjoy all the goodness we have to offer!
